Ian Hayles, Minister of State in Jamaica’s Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, is a second-term Member of Parliament for the constituency of Western Hanover. He currently serves on the Infrastructure and Physical Development as well as the International Relations and Trade Committees of Parliament.
He was first elected to parliament in 2007 from the Constituency of Western Hanover and was given the portfolio of Investment and Development within the shadow cabinet. In 2011, Mr. Hayles was re-elected to the House of Representatives. He spent a year as Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
He is also an entrepreneur with many years of experience in real estate development, farming and business consultancy.
Mr. Hayles lived and worked in the United States for more than 20 years. He received a diploma from the State University of New York as well as certificates from the University of Notre Dame in effective leadership, leading teams and organizations and executive leadership strategies, and certification in strategic management from Cornell University. Mr. Hayles also received certification from Harvard University in business creativity: strategies and techniques, negotiation skills, and strategies for increased effectiveness. He is pursuing a degree in business management with emphasis in public sector management through the University of Phoenix.
