Shorna Newsome Myrie

Shorna Newsome MyrieMrs. Newsome Myrie has been manager of Employment and Career Services for the North West Region of the Human Employment and Resource Training (HEART) Trust since May 2013. She has more than 18 years of experience in hospitality management, training, leadership, events planning, budget development, marketing, customer service, and project management.

She began her professional career as a trainee manager at the Half Moon Hotel in 1995. She joined the HEART Trust NTA in 1999 as a housekeeping instructor at Runaway Bay, where she took on the challenge of leading the property’s environmental program, resulting in the property’s recognition as the first hotel in the world with a training institute to gain the prestigious Green Globe Certification. She has since held senior positions at Kenilworth Academy and Falmouth Vocational Training Centre and several top management positions at Runaway Bay.

Mrs. Newsome Myrie has an associate’s degree in food and beverage management, a diploma in marketing and sales management, a bachelor’s degree in hotel and resort management, a post-graduate diploma in technical and vocational education and training management, and a master’s degree in business administration with emphasis in human resource management. She is a certified hospitality educator and assessor and has completed training in several areas to include corporate strategic planning, project management, behavioral interview techniques, supervisory management, quality audit, state protocol and event management.
